Foundation - footings

These are the concrete footings that the concrete basement walls will sit on/tie into. Rebar is placed horizontally in the footings as well as vertical rebar to tie the wall rebar into. The forms are 2x8 boards set 16" apart. There is some technical stuff that goes into footings and walls - first you have to make sure you have all your dimensions correct - then you have to make sure you have things straight & square - then you have to "shoot grades" which makes sure everything is level. These are not easy things to do when your building is NOT in the shape of a square or rectangle!!

Here is the pump truck that will get the concrete to the footings. We have to do this becuase our frost wall (something needed in freezing climates) is too far away from the reachable location of the concrete truck. This boom is about 45+ feet long (twice the boom we actually needed - the smaller one was on a different job). It just unfolds from the back of the truck...it was remotely controlled by an operator - while the guys were directing him where to place the spout.

**Frost wall - a 4' wall needed below ground level - helps protect house from freezing temps that could cause interior damage**


Here is David actually working!! :-) He got to run the spout while a guy right behind him "vibrates" the concrete. This helps get rid of air bubbles.

Finished product
