Don't be fooled...this weekend we only got one wall up, but holy cow, it was a doosey!
Here is where we begin the weekend - all the "short" walls are complete (at least the ones we need to install the roof trusses).
It's the Pumpkin on the job site!! It makes trips up here every once in a while - delivering lumber and sheathing...
That is our neighborhood cul-de-sac below...and the HUGE tanks will be our fire surpression system for the subdivision...they will actually be buried under one of our switchbacks. I am skeptical that they will fit...side by side on our road...David seems to think they will...I guess we will see!! They are ugly!!
Here is my dad and David using "hi-jacks" to lift the wall...it was a HEAVY wall...we have beam pockets that are 5 solid 2x6's plus - the corner my dad is lifting has a beem pocket as well as 4 2x6 solid...AND it is a 12' high wall...way too heavy to be lifting with just the three of us! These were slick tools...
Here is another view...they are using 20' 2x4's to "walk" the jacks up...
Here is the wall up in place...it creates the wall between our greatroom/entry way and our dinning/kitchen area. The window where David is standing is actually an interior window from the dinning room...looking into the greatroom - centered on our fireplace...it isn't actually the whole height of the wall...we just haven't put in the header pieces yet (see horizontal pieces above my dad's head - 3 (2x8) + 2(2x6) - these pieces create the strength of the windows and doors (why they are the safest places in an earthquake))
I decided to stop right before our first switchback down the road and look back at the view of the house in the trees...kind of cool looking! The big wide open space you see with in the green will be our dining room sliding door.
